What’s worth it this week on PSN?

Catan
Available on the Xbox 360 for over three years, Catan comes to PSN with the same loveable gameplay that has destroyed many a bachelor’s degree in higher education camps around the world. The game is one of land possession and resource trading; based on the board game of the same name you’ll attempt to seize control of your opponents land by building roads and settlements to earn points. Trade resources to make bold moves and win the game. Catan is notable for introducing the phrase “I’ve got wood for sheep” to modern parlance. Continue reading »

In an effort to capture some summer traffic and drive sales of the PSP-3000 and PSP Go, Sony has added a host of first and third party titles to the Greatest Hits $9.99 catalogue. These older titles represent some of Sony’s best-selling franchises on the portable system, drastically reducing the cost of entry to new customers, and providing existing customers with some solid savings. It’s a big day for the PSN. The Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package map pack is dropping today for $15, ending the timed exclusive window it enjoyed on the Xbox 360. This pack features three new maps and two maps from Modern Warfare. Players have been highly critical of the price of this pack, especially in light of the recycled content. Dark Forces blasts onto PS3/PSP

Dark Forces!

The PlayStation Network update came early today and brought with it some great news: the PS1 classic Star Wars: Dark Forces is now available for $4.99. This first person shooter tells the story of how Kyle Katarn acquired the Death Star plans for the Rebellion, and then went on to eliminate the Empire’s other super weapon: a robotic army called the “Dark Force”. The best part about this deal? For $5 you can play it on your PS3 and on your PSP/PSP Go. In short: it’s worth it!

The Spring Fever sale continues, this week focusing on PixelJunk titles at 50% off. The best deal, by far, is the PixelJunk 3-in-1 bundle; for $9.99 you get PixelJunk Racers, Eden, and Monsters – an actual savings of 66% of the retail price of each title. For just $4.99 more you can pick up PixelJunk Shooter, bringing your total to $15 for all four PixelJunk games. Verdict? Absolutely worth it on all counts.
